ReactionTaylor Hinds on Liverpool character, goals and Chelsea motivation

After one success in their opening five games in the Barclays Women’s Super League this term, Matt Beard’s side were determined to get back in the winning groove at Villa Park.

And their cause was significantly bolstered by a brace from Hinds during the first half, with the left wing-back twice arriving at the back post to convert.

“Obviously I’m delighted on a personal note, but for the team as well,” the No.12 said post-match. “We did really well. We fought until the end and got the three points.

“As a collective we all support each other, we all motivate each other. We’ve just got to stick through it until the end. We did that and the character of the team was unbelievable.”

Having kept Villa at bay after Gabi Nunes struck back early in the second half, Liverpool now sit sixth in the fledgling standings with nine points ahead of Sunday’s St Helens Stadium clash with Chelsea.

Hinds feels the display and result against Villa can be a confidence-booster for the squad when they tackle the reigning champions in a 12.30pm GMT kick-off.

“It gives us that motivation for the next game,” she said. “Obviously we’ve got a tough game next weekend.

“It has been hard this season. We knew it was going to be tough as well. But we’ve got high standards for ourselves and we want those three points. We’ve just got to keep fighting.”

Hinds, who became a senior Jamaica international last month, is also eager to continue making an important individual impact for the team.

She said: “I like to contribute at both ends of the pitch, as a wing-back it suits me really well. To get goals and assists and help defend for the team as well, that’s what I like to do.”
