LFC WomenTaylor Hinds interview: Bouncing back, Brighton clash and Bonner accolade

After the disappointment of a 5-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend, Matt Beard's side produced a positive display in the Continental League Cup against Manchester United in midweek.

Despite an eventual 1-0 defeat on the night, the Reds had some great opportunities in the second half and were unfortunate not to secure at least a point.

Switching back to WSL duty, Liverpool are just two points off the top three while Brighton are eighth ahead of the teams' 2pm GMT clash.

Liverpoolfc.com caught up with Hinds at the AXA Melwood Training Centre ahead of the fixture, and she discussed being captain in the absence of Niamh Fahey, why the summer signings have settled in so well, and more...

On the team's eagerness to bounce back after the result at Chelsea…

Definitely. I think it's always hard after a loss but we've put that behind us now and we are ready to try to get those three points again on Sunday. I think we've got a great team and the game against Chelsea, unfortunately we fell short, but we will put that behind us and we are ready to put on a good performance against Brighton.

On the overall encouraging form of the side so far this season…

From the start we have done really well and I think it shows how hard we worked in pre-season as well. We've still got a long season to go so hopefully we can keep stepping up our performances and get more points on the board.

On getting a rest in midweek and an encouraging display against Manchester United…

[We] put on a proper battle against them. In the second half we had a few chances and we were really unlucky. But [it was] a great performance and the girls who needed minutes have got them.

On the return of Fahey, who made a 45-minute comeback on Wednesday…

She's our skipper and it's always good to have her back. Niamh is a big character on and off the pitch so we have definitely missed her.

On taking the captain's armband in Fahey's absence…

It's always a proud moment. I love this city and I am honoured to take the armband for the time being for the team.

On being back in front of the home supporters at Prenton Park this weekend…

Our fans are amazing! Week in, week out, they are always there supporting us home and away. The fans are the reason why we play football as well, so I can't wait to play in front of them again this weekend.

On the challenge posed by Brighton…

Our home form has been good and I think this will be a physical game this weekend. Brighton have had a few tough games as well, we have too, but hopefully we can get a good performance in and get those three points.

On why she feels Sophie Roman Haug can go from strength to strength after netting her first goal for the club at Tottenham Hotspur…

I think that has just given her that boost and that confidence she needs. I also think she has been really unlucky in a few of the other games but Sophie is a great asset to our team and now she has that first goal hopefully she can get more.

On the summer arrivals settling in well at the club, with Marie Höbinger being a fan favourite already…

Marie is a class player with her skills and tricks. Everyone works really hard and I think that's what is so good about our team this season. There is so much variety of players and I think everyone is enjoying it, not just on the pitch but off it as well. We all get along, you can see that on the pitch as well.

On Gemma Bonner receiving a special presentation on Sunday to mark her record-breaking appearance tally for the Reds in the WSL era…

It's unbelievable. I think anyone would love to have that status as well and Gemma has put in some unbelievable performances this season as well. She is very happy about it and we are very happy as a team for her as well.
