ReactionTaylor Hinds on Chelsea reflections, attacking play and derby anticipation
The Reds were beaten 3-0 by the Blues at St Helens Stadium on Sunday lunchtime in the Barclays Women's Super League.
Goals from Mayra Ramirez and Guro Reiten before half-time put the champions ahead, and despite the hosts' pressure in the second half, the visitors added a third through Aggie Beever-Jones in the last minute.
Liverpool now turn their focus to a meeting with neighbours Everton in their next outing (Sunday November 17), which is set to be the final fixture between the two at Goodison Park.
Read on to see Hinds' reflections on the Chelsea loss and preview to the derby contest...
On the defeat by Chelsea...
I thought we did well at times. There were loads of positives to take from the game. [There were] just a few mistakes from myself and the team that we just need to tidy up on. Obviously Chelsea are a good side and again we were good, but it was just in the final third those little things we need to get better at.
On the 'positives' to take...
We had a few passages of play that were really good, it's just frustrating when it's our mistakes that led to the goals. I think we competed with them really well, so hopefully we can just take the positives into the next game and work on what we need to improve in the next game.
On the challenge of trying to produce a comeback after half-time...
At half-time we knew we were still in the game. We've done it before against Chelsea and we've competed well against them, so we knew we were still in the game and it was a positive mentality going into the second half. I think you could see that. We battled for it, and we tried to get a goal and tried to get back into it. It was positive at half-time from the team.
On her attacking ability after two goals last week, and producing a consistent threat…
I guess it's credit to the team for how we play and using the width and getting those crosses into the box. That's the way we like to play in wide areas… we know that the majority of the goals come from crosses. It's what we work on in training and as a wing-back that's my favourite position to get up to. It's demanding to get back but that's what I enjoy about playing there.
On looking ahead to facing Everton in Sunday's Merseyside derby...
Every game this season is tough. You can see by our results. It's been hard and that's what we love though. We love a battle and we want every game to be tough and when you come out of a tough game with three points it's more motivation. It makes you feel even better to go into the next game. Obviously next week will be another tough game. It's a derby so you know what derbies are like. It will be fun and a tough game.
On what she expects from the last derby at Goodison Park...
When you go into a derby, everything is scrapped. It's a derby and you want to get those three points. We want it to be red, they want it to be blue. It's a totally different game and they're going to put everything into it and so are we. It'll be a real fight. We're looking forward to it.
On having a unique perspective having been on both sides of the derby...
I think for me, you just know how special a derby game is. I've been on both sides but being a Red now I just want Liverpool to be red. I want to win the derby, and I think that means even more, especially as I was on the other side. Hopefully we can get the three points.
