AnalysisTalking points: Salah brings up double century, Elliott's impact, comebacks and more

Jürgen Klopp’s side were under pressure when Jean-Philippe Mateta gave the Eagles the lead in the second half, but produced another dramatic late comeback to take the spoils in south London.

Here are five things we spotted after another big three points on the road…

Salah hits his double century

It wasn’t the most beautiful goal Salah has ever scored for Liverpool, but the Egyptian certainly won’t care.

Salah’s deflected effort was vital on the day, bringing the visitors level as they looked to be sliding towards defeat, and it was significant in the wider context too, taking the 31-year-old to 200 Reds goals.

He becomes only the fifth player in the club’s history to reach that milestone, and the fact that he has done so in only 327 games only underlines his remarkable quality and his remarkable consistency.

He added an assist on the day too, for good measure. A special player for Liverpool Football Club, no doubt.

Elliott’s magical cameo

It was a goal fit to win any game, and it came from the man who had done so much to turn things around for Liverpool.

Elliott has enjoyed a few fine cameos off the bench this season, but this was as good as any. The 20-year-old, brought on with only 16 minutes of the 90 remaining, was bright and lively, full of life and full of running, and he crowned his display with a brilliant strike in the first minute of added time.

Not a bad way, or a bad time, to net your first goal of the season.

The comeback kings strike again

Never write off this Liverpool side. The Reds were already the Premier League’s comeback kings this season prior to kick-off, and they underlined their fighting spirit once more here, scoring twice in the final 14 minutes to turn a 1-0 defeat into a 2-1 win.

Klopp’s side have now secured 15 points from losing positions this season, their substitutes continuing to influence games off the bench, and their resilience there for all to see.

Klopp’s Palace record

It may not have felt like it for much of this game, but Klopp teams seem to like playing against Crystal Palace.

This was the Liverpool boss’ 13th victory over the Eagles in 17 meetings. Only against Freiburg, when managing FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund, has he enjoyed more success against a single opponent in league football.

The Reds remain undefeated at Selhurst Park, meanwhile, in nine league visits, winning eight of those. Their last loss at the stadium came in November 2014.

Alisson returns in style

After three games on the sidelines, Alisson Becker returned to action for Liverpool here, and performed superbly.

His first-half save from Jeffrey Schlupp, turning the ball against the post, was outstanding, and though he was later beaten by Mateta’s penalty, the Brazilian produced another big contribution in the 10th minute of added time, diving to his right to push away Joachim Andersen’s header.

No clean sheet, alas, but another performance to savour from the No.1.
