NewsSteve Varley named new chair of LFC Foundation

Steve takes on the role with a wealth of experience across both business and non-profit sectors, and will play a key role in the continued growth of LFC Foundation.

Having grown up in the north west with close family links to the city, the lifelong Reds fan knows the importance of LFC Foundation to the Liverpool City Region and what it means to be a part of its community.

Steve was a partner at Ernst and Young (EY) for almost 20 years, most notably as the chair and managing partner of EY's UK and Ireland business, and more recently as global vice-chair, responsible for the scaling up of their sustainability practice globally, before being appointed as a special advocate at the UN Climate Change in August this year.

In this role as chair of LFC Foundation, Steve is committed to driving change through the Sustainable Development Goals, which are designed to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, something which perfectly aligns with the goals of Liverpool FC and LFC Foundation's work through The Red Way.

During his time at EY, Steve also led the creation of the EY Foundation, which focuses on improving the lives of young people from low-income families to get paid work experience, employability skills training and career guidance, positively impacting the lives of more than 18,000 young people so far.

His dedication to social responsibility and community development aligns with the work of LFC Foundation and his experience and knowledge will be invaluable to the club's official charity.

Steve said: "I am honoured to be appointed chair of the trustees for the LFC Foundation. Having joined as a trustee earlier this year, I have already seen first-hand the incredible work that is being done and I look forward to playing my part in developing that going forward.

"Liverpool as a city and a football club holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to working closely with Matt Parish, the board of trustees and the wider team at the foundation to continue to inspire change and support our communities both at home and away."

LFC Foundation supported more than 127,000 people last year, with almost 60 per cent of those coming from the top 20 per cent most-deprived areas of the country. Steve will now help to oversee the continued growth of LFC Foundation with a focus on three key areas, which are health, learning and employability.
