NewsSpecial reunion to commemorate anniversary of Liverpool's first European game
The Reds' long and prosperous history in Europe began in August 1964 when they travelled to Iceland to face KR Reykjavik in the first leg of a European Cup preliminary round tie.
Bill Shankly's side ran out 5-0 winners at Laugardalsvollur before the return fixture in L4 a month later saw the hosts claim a 6-1 victory and secure passage into the European Cup proper.
A number of those who featured in the matches reunited at Anfield on Saturday ahead of the Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth.
Gísli Þorkellsson, Þorgeir Guðmundsson, Arsæll Kjartansson, Gunnar Felixsson, Heimir Guðjónsson, Þórður Jónsson and Sveinn Jónsson arrived from Iceland and were presented with a special pennant pitchside, where they met some former Liverpool players.
