Programme notes'Special mention to Lawsy, she is a big asset for us'
The Reds were 2-1 winners at Aston Villa thanks to a pair of Taylor Hinds finishes during the first half, while Laws made several important saves after the break to follow up her role in the opening goal.
Writing in her matchday programme notes for Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League clash with Chelsea, captain Fahey reserves particular praise for the No.1.
“Last Sunday’s result at Aston Villa gave us a much-needed and thoroughly deserved three points,” she says.
“I felt that in the first half we could have scored a couple more and been out of sight really, but it was a really important win after the international break to set us up for this next block of games.
“Both goals were excellent, flowing from back to front with everyone involved and some really nice play which culminated in Taylor producing two wonderful finishes. It was really pleasing to see us score two such great team goals.
“A special mention to Rachael Laws, too, who got the team moving for the opening goal. Lawsy is exceptional with her feet. The change of tempo with that pass was excellent and she is a phenomenal ball player. To have someone like that who can dictate play and set the tempo is a big asset for us.
“She made two big saves in the second half, one with her feet and then a diving save from Miri Taylor as well. She understands the game so well and I was delighted for Lawsy because sometimes people are very quick to pick out a mistake, especially with a goalkeeper, which is such a tough position.
“She was excellent and helped us get the three points.
“I was also pleased for Hannah Silcock, who came on and helped us see out the game. She is a technically gifted player and I think she can step into that role really easily and did a great job after coming on.
“It’s not an easy scenario to come into, especially as a young player, so to do as well as she did is testament to her. She’s a quality player and I was delighted for Hannah to be able to get on and contribute to the victory.”
