On his ninth consecutive start for Liverpool, Jones delivered his first ever Premier League brace for his boyhood club in take-a-bow style.

First, the No.17 snuck into space on the left side of the Foxes penalty area to pounce on Mohamed Salah’s swirling cross from the opposite channel and tuck home from close range.

That composed finish was followed just three minutes later by a supremely confident one, with Jones cracking an unstoppable hit from the edge of the box into the left corner of the Leicester goal having again been set up by Salah.

Alexander-Arnold’s sumptuous angled finish on this ground in December 2019 was an iconic moment of that title-winning campaign for the Reds.

But he perhaps bettered even that strike here with a blistering blast from distance that soared into the top corner midway through the second period.

Salah’s flick rolled a free-kick situation to Alexander-Arnold around 25 yards out and he sent the ball whistling beyond the reach of the goalkeeper with trademark technique.

Having netted the winner in each of the previous two games, Salah activated provider mode versus Leicester with a trio of excellent assists.

These were the 12th, 13th and 14th occasions so far this season that the Egyptian has created a goal for a teammate, adding to the 30 times he has found the target himself.

The No.11 now has two games left this term to equal or better his goal involvements total from the last campaign, when he chalked up 31 goals and 15 assists.

It’s the sweet feeling of seven consecutive victories in the top flight for Liverpool.

A successful streak that began on the road with a 6-1 at Leeds United last month was stretched further with their result against Leicester, as the campaign continues to conclude in encouraging fashion.

That form is the Reds’ best in the Premier League since April 2022, when Jürgen Klopp’s charges were on a 10-game winning run.

They banked a third consecutive clean sheet, too, in claiming a second win of 2022-23 at King Power Stadium, where they overcame Manchester City in the FA Community Shield way back on matchday one.

The top-four battle continues…

Victory in the east Midlands ensured Liverpool maintained the pressure on the teams above them as they mount a late-season push for a top-four finish.

The Reds now trail both Newcastle United and Manchester United by a single point in the table, though those two sides each have a game more to play.

The former host Brighton & Hove Albion in their next Premier League outing on Thursday evening, while the latter return to action by visiting AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

Klopp’s men’s next assignment, meanwhile, is their final Anfield fixture of 2022-23, with Aston Villa the opposition in L4 this weekend.

Roberto Firmino was not yet ready to return from a muscle injury and feature on Monday night, but the Brazilian was with the squad at King Power Stadium.

And as the visitors saw out their victory during the second half, the travelling Kopites took the opportunity to serenade the No.9, who is confirmed to depart the club this summer after eight unforgettable years.

An extended rendition of his ‘Si Senor’ chant emanated from the away section of the stadium, prompting a wide smile from the man himself on the Liverpool bench, and continued after full-time as well.
