The Reds have already had two bids rejected for the 19-year-old, the most recent of which was a package worth around £41 million.
Southampton are believed to be holding out for an asking price of £50m for the player they purchased for an initial £12m last summer.
Lavia was an unused substitute on Friday night for the opening fixture of the Championship campaign. Saints won 2-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday, with goals coming from Adam Armstrong and Che Adams.
