LFC WomenRhiannon Roberts: It has been an absolute pleasure to play for this club
The Wales international came off the bench to a rapturous reception from the supporters as the Reds narrowly lost 1-0 to Manchester United in their 2022-23 season finale.
Roberts is one of seven players who will be leaving the club this summer, and described the emotions of the occasion post-match.
“I’ve been here for quite a while and I’m going to miss the girls, the fans, everyone so, so much, but it has been an absolute pleasure to play for this club,” she told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I’ve played under four different managers, it has been up and down but I’ve loved every single minute of it.”
‘Razza’, as she is affectionately known, almost signed off in the finest fashion when she fired a chance over from close range in the final stages of the game.
“I really should have scored that! I just got a bit excited,” she said.
“I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves out there against United and we have been doing well against these big sides, they just caught us at the end, which was a bit unfortunate.”
A popular players among the fans, their song for Roberts about her running through brick walls for the good of the team will never be forgotten.
“The fans are amazing and I’ve loved playing for them,” she added.
“I’ve played all over the pitch for Liverpool, as a No.8, a No.10, full-back, wing-back, centre-half, I was actually second-choice goalkeeper for a couple of games so I think the only place I’ve not played is centre-forward, although saying that I probably have been shoved up there as a plan B in the past!
“I will take with me some great memories. It was devastating to get relegated but I wanted to stay and give it a go in the FA Women’s Championship and help this club get back to where we belong and I’ve done that with my teammates.
“I’m really happy with my time at Liverpool and and going forward I’m excited for the new journey.”
