NewsReds legends get creative with LFC Foundation in New York City

The surprise visit, which took place at Saturday’s Football NY Nolita in NYC, offered an inspiring opportunity for the Creative Works participants to meet the former Reds and learn more about their career journeys and personal experiences that helped to shape them.

In addition to a candid Q&A session with participants and LFC Foundation staff, the duo also took part in a fun, interactive trivia quiz.

The Creative Works programme aims to inspire young adults across New York and New Jersey by connecting creativity with employability.

Targeting individuals aged 16 to 25, the scheme helps develop essential transferable skills for a wide range of careers within the creative industry. Through a mix of interactive workshops and industry-specific sessions, participants gain exposure to various creative fields and opportunities for mentorship.

Speaking about the visit, Lucas said: “It was brilliant to meet such an inspiring group of young people and discover how the Foundation is helping them with their development, skills and confidence.

“It’s always incredible to see how far-reaching and important the LFC Foundation’s work is. I hope everyone enjoyed the visit as much as Martin and I did.”

Supported by club partner Kodansha, the programme provides participants with the chance to step outside of their comfort zones and engage with professionals and entrepreneurs from companies such as Stern Strategy, IREX and Standard Chartered. These mentors help participants build confidence, develop networks, and acquire skills vital for success in today’s competitive job market.

Since its inception, Creative Works has supported 119 participants across five cohorts, working with organisations including South Bronx United, High School of Hospitality Management and Cristo Rey Brooklyn. A remarkable 90.67 per cent of participants reported improved confidence after completing the programme.

Matt Parish, chief executive of LFC Foundation, added: “The Creative Works programme is all about empowering the next generation. By connecting young adults with mentors from the creative industry and giving them hands-on experience, we’re helping them develop the skills needed to thrive in their future careers.

“Having Lucas and Martin visit the programme was a special moment that I’m sure will be a long-lasting memory for all involved.”
