AnalysisRecords, league highs and more - a statistical review of Reds' 2021-22 season
The Reds played every fixture available to them across the campaign, picking up the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup along the way.
LFCTV's Review Show dug through the numbers to reflect on a season like no other.
Games and wins
Liverpool took part in 63 competitive fixtures between August and the end of May, winning 46 of them (excluding penalty shootouts) – a club record.
That equates to a win rate of 73 per cent – the most of any Reds top-flight team in history. In second is the Premier League-winning 2019-20 side with 71.9 per cent.
Only Manchester City (in 2018-19 and 2020-21) have won more games in a single season among England's top-flight clubs.
Klopp's men tasted defeat on just four occasions this term, with only Arsenal's 1990-91 side enjoying a better record among England's top-flight clubs – though they only played 50 times.
Goals, goals and goals
Liverpool scored an incredible 147 goals in all competitions this season.
They surpassed the previous club record of 138 (set in 1985-86) in their 57th fixture, the 3-2 win away at Villarreal to reach the Champions League final.
Their goals-per-game average works out as 2.33 – ranked third-highest among Liverpool's top-flight sides.
Topping that particular list is the swashbuckling 2013-14 team that fell just short in the Premier League title race, with Klopp's 2017-18 squad in second place.
Mentality monsters
No team gained more points from losing positions in the Premier League than Liverpool.
In the 12 games they fell behind in, Liverpool clawed 20 points from these situations – with five wins and as many draws.
Next best in that ranking are Brentford and Everton (both 15).
A pressing machine
The pressing style enforced by Klopp was hugely effective in an attacking sense.
The Reds led the Premier League with 443 high turnovers – defined as winning the ball within 40 metres of the opponent's goal.
From that total, 71 ended with a shot at goal (a league high) and seven resulted in a goal being scored (tied for most in the league with Chelsea).
Building up
Liverpool were also extremely capable of producing patient and controlled spells of play that would result in a goal.
In the Premier League, Klopp's side had 166 build-up attacks – 10 or more passes in a sequence that lead to a shot or touch in the opponent's penalty area – and scored from 14 of them.
