LFC WomenRachel Furness' Northern Ireland bow out of Euros
The Liverpool FC Women vice-captain featured for 80 minutes as her country were beaten 5-0 by England at St Mary’s in their final game of Group A.
Northern Ireland, making their first appearance at a major women’s tournament, had previously lost against Norway and Austria during the group phase.
“It wasn’t meant to be. We left everything out there so I’m proud of all the girls for the performance we’ve put in,” said Furness post-match.
“We’re inspiring the next generation. You’ve just got to see the fans who turned up in their thousands to support us — it’s fantastic.
“Personally, I want to leave a legacy; I want my family and the fans to be proud of me. I just wanted to do my best on and off the pitch for my country and leave us in good stead for the future.”
