Liverpool head to Wembley on Sunday afternoon to take on Newcastle United in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.

The Reds have returned the League Cup trophy to Anfield a record 10 times to date and will be looking to add to their collection this weekend as they attempt to defend their title.

Here, we look back on each victory so far in a special photo gallery…

1980-81

After losing a first League Cup final in 1978, Liverpool returned to finally get their hands on the trophy three years later.

Phil Thompson skippered the Reds as they defeated West Ham United 2-1 at the second attempt in a replay of the showpiece at Villa Park.

1981-82

A year later, Liverpool were back lifting the trophy as Ronnie Whelan was the hero on the day.

The Reds claimed a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur after extra-time, with Whelan netting an initial equaliser before putting his side ahead. Ian Rush rounded out the scoring.

1982-83

Bob Paisley completed a hat-trick of League Cup wins as Liverpool clinched a 2-1 result versus Manchester United in the 1983 edition.

The manager was hauled up into the stands to take the acclaim by his players in what was to be his last major final in charge.

1983-84

It was new boss Joe Fagan who led Liverpool to glory the following year, though it took a replay as the Reds faced their Merseyside rivals Everton.

Graeme Souness was the man on target at Maine Road to earn a 1-0 win following a goalless first meeting.

1994-95

Liverpool had to wait 11 years for their next triumph in the competition, which came at Wembley.

Steve McManaman put in a Player of the Match performance in the capital, with his two goals securing a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.

2000-01

The League Cup showpiece took place at the Millennium Stadium in 2001, with Liverpool pitted against Birmingham City in Cardiff.

A penalty shootout was required following a 1-1 draw, with Andrew Johnson missing the decisive spot-kick to give the Reds the first honour of a memorable treble-winning campaign.

2002-03

Bragging rights between two old foes were on the line two years later in Cardiff.

Gerard Houllier's men took home the trophy again – with Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen both on target against Manchester United.

2011-12

Sir Kenny Dalglish led Liverpool back to Wembley in 2012, with Liverpool having failed to win a major trophy in the six years prior.

Championship outfit Cardiff City provided the opposition and the Reds prevailed on penalties at the end of a back-and-forth contest that finished 2-2.

2021-22

Jürgen Klopp was looking to add the League Cup trophy to his impressive haul in the 2022 edition.

After a hard-fought goalless draw against Chelsea, penalties were required to separate the two teams at Wembley.

A total of 22 kicks were taken and 21 were scored before Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga missed to hand the Reds glory.

2023-24

For a second time in two years, it was Liverpool v Chelsea pitted against one another in the showpiece in 2024.

A depleted Liverpool were up against it after suffering a number of injuries pre- and in-game, though a defiant showing saw captain Virgil van Dijk head home a winner in extra-time, delivering Klopp his final piece of silverware as manager.
