FeatureOpta analysis: Three statistical takeaways to know from Liverpool's start to 2024-25

With the help of Opta's football data editor Michael Reid, LFCTV's Review Show went in-depth on a number of interesting aspects of the Reds' output so far this term.

Solid foundations

Sitting at the top of the Premier League, Liverpool are also the leaders in a number of defensive categories within the division.

Arne Slot's side have conceded just twice in the league so far – next-best are Arsenal and Nottingham Forest with six in the against column.

That record of two goals conceded and five clean sheets in the opening seven matches has only been achieved on a couple of occasions before in Liverpool's extensive top-flight history (2007-08 and 1977-78).

Such stinginess at the back has been achieved by the Reds restricting opponents to a league-best 122 touches in the box, contributing to an overall xGA (expected goals against) of 5.17.

Imperious Ibou

Left out of the XI on the opening day at Ipswich Town, Ibrahima Konate has grasped his opportunity and then some after being introduced at the interval in that win.

The centre-half has started all but one of Liverpool's nine matches since.

Using the data collected so far, it's shaping up to be his best season yet in a red shirt.

Konate is currently the Premier League leader for success rate in duels and aerial duels.

All-action Gravenberch

Ryan Gravenberch's work on and off the ball from the holding-midfield position he's making his own has been a standout of the Reds' strong start.

The 22-year-old is ranking in the top three among Premier League midfielders for possession wins, interceptions and success in duels.

And he's proving effective getting the Reds up the pitch, too, with 123 carries of the ball in total (covering 1,294.3 metres in distance). Bruno Guimaraes and Mateo Kovacic are the only midfielders to have more.

Elsewhere, Kovacic just edges the Dutchman again in passes made (484 to 476).

Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, meanwhile, have been involved in the passing sequences of six goals Liverpool have scored this season – a league high for central midfielders.
