MatchThe opposition lowdown: Manchester United
Recent form
United head in to this game having been beaten in their last three outings in the top flight.
Their last victory in the division came against local rivals Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, where they claimed a 2-1 win in mid-December.
Since then, they have suffered losses to AFC Bournemouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
The Red Devils began the weekend 14th in the standings after 19 games of the campaign, having amassed 22 points so far this season.
Player stats
United have spread their goals and assists around their attacking players this season.
Captain Bruno Fernandes has been a key figure, scoring four and assisting five times in the Premier League.
Amad Diallo has six assists – alongside two goals – while Marcus Rashford (four goals), Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee (three goals apiece) have an assist each also.
Team news
Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are eligible to return from suspension for the away side.
Rashford, however, is set to miss the fixture due to illness, while no pre-match update was provided on the status of injured trio Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw.
Jonny Evans was also not part of their 20-man squad last time out.
What was said
United head coach Ruben Amorim
"I adapt all the time. We played most of the games with three [midfielders], so Bruno sometimes was in a different position but he was in the midfield. Sometimes it is not a big difference. I know that people look for the three defenders but I don't see the game like that.
"I adapt for every opponent because I think it's important. No matter the quality of our team, we have to look at the opponent to understand what kind of game we will have. So I will do the same with the same principles."
Previous meeting
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Liverpool overcame their opponents at Old Trafford in a 3-0 victory for Arne Slot's outfit.
The meeting in September saw two goals from Luis Diaz and a Mohamed Salah strike earn the Reds three points on the road.
Pre-match stats
This is the 216th meeting between the clubs in all competitions and the 184th league encounter, with all but four of those coming in the top flight.
United, with 69 victories, have defeated Liverpool more times in league football than any other team.
They have won 25 times at Anfield in league encounters – more than any other club – while their 12 successes in front of the Kop in the Premier League era is also the most by any visiting team.
In their last 20 games at Anfield, United have scored 12 times and on the two occasions they managed to score more than once they recorded 2-1 victories, in September 2012 and March 2015.
The last four draws between the sides at Anfield have all ended 0-0: in 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2023.
