MatchThe opposition lowdown: Crystal Palace

Recent form

The Eagles have earned three points from their opening six league games.

Oliver Glasner's outfit were beaten 2-1 by Everton last time out at Goodison Park, having played out a 0-0 home draw against Manchester United prior to their Merseyside visit.

Palace also secured a point against Chelsea away and Leicester City at home.

Elsewhere, they have progressed through in the Carabao Cup, disposing of Championship duo Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers so far.

Ones to watch

Jean-Philippe Mateta has netted twice for the hosts across six Premier League appearances this season.

The forward has also scored twice in the Carabao Cup and poses the sternest threat to the Reds' defence following on from his 16 goals and four assists last term.

Midfielder Eberechi Eze is also a key playmaker for Palace in the final third, having scored on 11 occasions and assisted four times in the top flight across 2023-24.

Team news

Glasner could hand a debut to defender Trevoh Chalobah, who has been absent with an abdominal issue after arriving on loan from Chelsea.

Palace, however, remain unable to call upon Cheick Doucoure, Matheus Franca, Chadi Riad and Chris Richards, with all four sidelined due to injury.

Previous meetings

Liverpool defeated the hosts on their last visit to Selhurst Park in December 2023.

A Harvey Elliott strike in the first minute of second-half added time earned the spoils in dramatic fashion after Mohamed Salah had earlier levelled a Mateta penalty.

The visit prior in February 2023 saw the two teams play out a 0-0 draw, while in January 2022 the Reds secured a 3-1 league victory, with Virgil van Dijk, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho on the scoresheet.

What they said

Palace head coach Glasner

"Liverpool are doing quite well. Fantastic players, new manager who is doing a fantastic job.

"The squad has stayed together, nobody left, all the players look very hungry, very ambitious. I think it's the team with the most sprints in the game, most runs in behind, so they always threaten your defence.

"But we also want to play forward, we want to score a goal, because if we don't score a goal, we can't win."

Pre-match stats

Liverpool have won eight and drawn one of their last nine league visits to Palace, the exception being in February 2023.

The 7-0 win at Selhurst Park in December 2020 is the Reds' biggest victory away from home in the top flight.

If Liverpool win this match, it will be only the third time in history that they have won their opening four away league games of a campaign. The other occasions were 2019-20 (under Jürgen Klopp) and 1990-91 (under Sir Kenny Dalglish).

Arne Slot could become the first Reds boss to win his first four away league fixtures in charge and his opening five in all competitions.

Diogo Jota could make his 100th start for Liverpool in all competitions.

Salah has eight goals in 12 previous appearances against Palace.
