Reaction'One of my best!' - Diogo Jota on Sevilla volley, working under Arne Slot and Anfield return
The Portugal forward connected perfectly with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross to send his left-footed effort back across the visiting goalkeeper and into the top corner on the half-hour mark of Sunday’s pre-season friendly.
And post-match, he told Liverpoolfc.com: “Yeah, one of the best! I hit it properly with my left foot and it ended up being a great goal. One of my best, for sure.
“So, [I am] happy with the result, with the way we played and everybody worked out very hard today so a good step into the first game of the league next week.”
The Reds claimed a convincing victory over Sevilla as Luis Diaz (two) and Trey Nyoni joined Jota on the scoresheet.

On it being both a good result and workout ahead of the new season…
Yeah, mainly that. I think we worked hard, it’s sunny today, it’s very hot! We worked hard [and] some of us did 90 minutes, so a good step into our preparation and obviously it’s always good to work under victories and although we conceded a goal I think it was a good performance overall.
On Diaz’s goals and an unforgettable moment for teenager Nyoni at the Kop end...
Yeah, a lot of good goals. Lucho, we already know what he can do, he scored twice, and a special word for Trey – his first goal I think. He’s been demonstrating that he is very good, he is only very young and we have one for the future for sure.
On what Arne Slot demands from the players and how he is finding working under the new head coach…
Of course, [it is] a new man on the touchline and everyone needs to adapt. I think we are working well, he is demanding – even with a 4-1 win he was telling us what we need to improve and do better. So, I think that’s the way forward. I think we have played well in this pre-season, but we all know where it counts is next week.
On the positive results in pre-season helping going into the new campaign…
Yeah, especially for the head coach – you try to come with new ideas… and when you win, that shows everyone that you are in the right direction. Although the most important [thing] in pre-season is getting that fitness back, building on top with wins is always better and I think that although we had people arriving at different stages we are building a fully fit XI to start the campaign next week.
On it being great to be back at Anfield…
Yes, even in a friendly it was almost full! We know the support we have is always with us and that gives us a huge boost. I think they know that and I hope this season we can all together create something special.
