FeatureNunez now joint-second… Liverpool's stoppage-time Premier League scorers
The No.9 produced a stunning cameo from the bench at Brentford on Saturday, hitting the target twice after the end of the regulation 90 minutes to clinch a 2-0 victory for the visitors.
Nunez’s brace took his added-time tally in the division to five since joining the Reds in 2022.
Ten months ago, of course, the Uruguayan provided the club’s latest winning goal in the Premier League when he headed home against Nottingham Forest with 90+9 on the clock.
He also previously wrapped up the scoring in the final moments of a 4-0 win at AFC Bournemouth last January, and the second of his brilliant match-winning double versus Newcastle United in August 2023 came three minutes past the 90.
Only Sadio Mane, with six, has scored more stoppage-time goals for the Reds in the Premier League.
The Senegalese forward’s tally included unforgettable winning efforts away at Everton (December 2016) and Aston Villa (November 2019).
Both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres achieved the feat on five occasions while representing Liverpool, while Dirk Kuyt did it four times.
There were three each from Divock Origi and Luis Suarez during their spells at Anfield, and Mohamed Salah has also recorded three so far - including the iconic clinching goal against Manchester United at Anfield five years ago this month.
Overall, 38 different players have scored a stoppage-time Premier League goal for the Reds, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker famously among them, plus two own goals.
