Premier LeagueNottingham Forest v Liverpool: Team news
Darwin Nunez is unavailable for the Reds as he serves a one-match suspension in the division for receiving five yellow cards within the opening 19 games.
Joe Gomez, meanwhile, remains sidelined as a result of the hamstring injury he sustained at West Ham United last month and is not yet in training.
Asked about Gomez and squad fitness news for the 8pm GMT kick-off at the City Ground, head coach Arne Slot told his pre-match press conference: “[Gomez is] quite far [away].
“He’s definitely not training with the team yet. And Darwin is suspended. Those are the two we will miss tomorrow.”
Forest are one of only two teams to have beaten Liverpool in the 30 games they have played in all competitions since Slot was appointed in the summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who are third in the Premier League table ahead of the midweek fixtures, claimed a 1-0 victory at Anfield in the league in September.
“I watched it back because I wanted to see what we did back then in terms of tactics and what we could do now,” Slot told reporters on Monday.
“I assume, but I’m not sure of course because I don’t make the line-up for Forest, but back then it was already a surprise for us that [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Anthony] Elanga weren’t playing.
“But they are playing so well now that it would again be a surprise to me if they don’t start now. Back then, they didn’t start and they played more with midfielders in these positions.
“So, we have to wait and see. We are prepared for both, of course. But that we have to do better than that game, that is clear. And they have still a similar playing style, like we still have the similar playing style. So we have to look into the details [for] what we can do better than that game.”
Ibrahim Sangare (hamstring) is currently the only Forest player to be dealing with an injury.
Espirito Santo opted to make 11 changes for their Emirates FA Cup win over Luton Town at the weekend.
Midfielder Danilo made his comeback from a broken ankle in that tie, appearing as an 85th-minute substitute.
“We are assessing players that played all the game, assessing players that are out,” Espirito Santo said at his pre-match press conference. “So, we prepare but [there are] not major issues.”
On the clash, the Forest boss continued: “We try as much as possible to ignore what’s around. We never change – it’s the way we see things, it’s the way we see the competition, I would say it’s the way we see life. It’s day by day, focus on our tasks and tomorrow is another tough one.”
