MatchMerseyside derby stats: Liverpool aiming for 100th win over Everton

The Reds make the short journey to the home of neighbours Everton, with kick-off set for 8pm BST.

As well as seeking to maintain their bid to win the league title, Liverpool also have the chance to register a landmark victory over the Blues.

Wednesday’s encounter is the 244th Merseyside derby across all competitions.

Liverpool are aiming to reach a century of victories over their neighbours, having beaten the Blues 99 times to date. Everton have recorded 67 wins and there have been 77 draws.

This will be Jürgen Klopp’s final Merseyside derby in charge of Liverpool. He’s won nine of his 16 previous league meetings with Everton (six draws, one defeat). No Reds manager has ever won as many as 10 league Merseyside derbies.

Klopp could also become just the second Liverpool boss to win both his first and last league clashes with Everton, after Sir Kenny Dalglish.

The Reds have lost just one of their last 26 Premier League games against Everton (12 wins, 13 draws), winning four of the last five and keeping a clean sheet in each of the last four.

Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in six goals in his last five Premier League appearances against Everton, scoring five and assisting one – including a brace in the reverse fixture in October.

Only Ian Rush (13), Steven Gerrard (nine) and Harry Chambers (eight) have scored more league goals for Liverpool against Everton than Salah (seven).

Nine of the last 12 encounters between the clubs at Goodison Park in the Premier League have ended level, including five goalless draws.

Klopp’s men have won each of their last 12 league fixtures played on a Wednesday by an aggregate score of 33-5, since a 1-0 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in February 2021.

The Reds have won seven of their last nine Premier League away games (one draw, one loss) and scored at least once in each of their last 20 away league matches.

The Blues have won both of their last two Premier League home games, keeping a clean sheet in each.

Liverpool are three goals away from bringing up 150 at Everton in all competitions.

The Reds’ four consecutive clean sheets in derbies is their best such run since the nine in a row (in all competitions, eight in the league) that ended in 1976.

Alisson Becker has kept seven clean sheets in his nine previous appearances against Everton – all in the league.

Liverpool have scored 131 goals so far this season. Only three times have they ever scored more in a single campaign, two of those under Klopp (147 in 2021-22 – the club record – and 135 in 2017-18).

Everton have conceded 18 goals at home in the league this season; before the midweek fixtures, only the division’s top three have conceded fewer.

Only Arsenal’s David Raya has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Blues stopper Jordan Pickford, who has 10.
