Matthijs de Ligt reveals how he will decide on next club
Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has revealed his strategy behind choosing his next club, as the transfer talk surrounding the teenager rumbles on.
The 19-year-old has been widely linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs after a successful season with the Dutch side, winning the Eredivisie and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for the Netherlands international, which would partner him alongside compatriot Virgil van Dijk, but the Echo understands Jurgen Klopp's side have no plans to make a move for De Ligt.
Despite this, speculation continues to orientate around the head of the young talent and he has provided an insight into how he will make a choice on his future.
"I look at what I think is the best for my career, where I can develop the best, where I can make the most playing minutes. On that I base my choice," he said in a press conference on Sunday.
"Where do I see myself? Well obviously the Premier League is a big competition, Spain also, but you have other competitions. It's not just about those two.
"I still don't know anything about where my future is, so I'll see how it goes. First we have to play two games and after that I will see what happens next.
"Of course there is some interest from clubs, but I don't want to say some names who are interested.
"But what I will say is I am now focused on the national team and after the national team I will see what the future brings."
De Ligt was also asked if he had a dream club of choice, though he made it clear that was not on his mind.
"No, I don't really have a dream club outside of Ajax. It was always my dream to play at Ajax. I succeeded and I'm happy about that."
