Liverpool given huge Nabil Fekir transfer boost
Liverpool have been given a huge boost in their hopes of landing Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir after president of the Ligue 1 side Jean-Michel Aulas gave his blessing for the French international to leave the club.
The Reds were poised to land Fekir last summer before negotiations broke down at the eleventh hour amid fears about the Frenchman's knee.
But he has continued to be linked with a move away from Lyon and Liverpool are expected to reignite their interest in the 25-year-old.
Fekir hit 12 goals in all competitions in 2018-19 after winning the World Cup with France.
After Lyon's 3-2 win over Nimes on Friday, Aulas said: "Effectively, Nabil is outside [of the two departures expected], because we have an understanding that he can go.
"Thanks Nabil for bringing what he brought, we have an understanding to let him go."
Fekir has played 192 times for his boyhood club, finding the net on 69 occasions.
While with Lyon, he has earned 21 caps for his country.
Lyon finished third in Ligue 1 this season, but look set to see a clutch of their top players leave the club.
As well as Fekir, Tanguy Ndmbele, Ferland Mendy, Moussa Dembele and Memphis Depay are all attracting interest.
But Aulas is adamant they will bring players in to the club.
"We will work on making signings," he added. "We are going to try to lose as few players as possible. We are also going to strengthen.
"We are quickly going to have it out with [new sporting director] Juninho and [head coach] Sylvinho."
