Dejan Lovren injury boost as Joe Gomez set for return to full training
Liverpool's defensive injury concerns have eased with positive news on Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez.
Croatia international Lovren limped off in the closing stages of the Reds' 3-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield last Saturday.
However, Liverpool have played down concerns that the centre-back could be facing a spell on the sidelines. The initial prognosis is that it was only muscle tightness in his leg.
That will be a major boost for Jurgen Klopp ahead of next Tuesday's first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Roma at Anfield.
Lovren has formed a solid defensive double act with Virgil van Dijk and has been enjoying the best spell of his Liverpool career.
Fellow centre-back Joel Matip is out for the rest of the season with a thigh injury, but Gomez is on the comeback trail.
The 20-year-old defender is close to returning to full training – nearly four weeks after he damaged ankle ligaments playing for England against the Netherlands.
Klopp's squad will reconvene at Melwood today to start their preparations for Saturday's Premier League trip to West Brom.
Gomez, who has worked tirelessly to regain fitness, faces a clearing session with the rehab staff who will determine whether he's ready to rejoin his teammates.
The game against the Baggies could come too soon for Gomez but he should be available for the visit of Roma.
