LFC WomenMatt Beard: Trophy lift will be special - but we want another win
It’s going to be a special day on Sunday when we get to lift the FA Women’s Championship trophy in front of our fantastic supporters, but we have to remember we have a very important game that we will do our very best to try to win.
We’ve had a fantastic season but we still have two league games remaining and we want to finish with six points. That is our objective.
Sunday is going to be a day of celebration but I don’t want to take away from the fact that we have this important game. We are on a good run and we want that run to continue.
Since we achieved promotion back to the Women’s Super League we have had 12 players away on international duty - and this week was the first time we’ve all been back together since we won the league, believe it or not.
We have only had six players who weren’t on international duty but they have been training and working incredibly hard.
We are fully focused on Sunday’s game and fingers crossed we can carry our good run on and then celebrate with our fans afterwards.
We want to win this game and then lift the trophy. We are fully focused, training has been spot on and we are looking forward to this game - and the priority is the game.
Neil Redfearn has done a great job at Sheffield United. He has got everybody back fit now and they have had a great second half of the season, going from the bottom four to the top three.
I know they will be looking to spoil the party, but we’ve just got to be prepared for that like we have been all season.
The good thing for me is we now don’t have the pressure that’s been on our shoulders over the last four or five weeks. We can go and play our game, which will be great.
I’m glad that we did win the league at Bristol City so we can now have the chance to lift the title in front of our own supporters. I say this all the time, but they have been absolutely brilliant and it’s so great to see the bond between players and fans.
I was watching the FA Cup semi-final the other day when Liverpool beat Manchester City and when Liverpool went 2-0 up it was great to see the atmosphere.
I know with the Women’s side we haven’t got 60 or 70,000 cheering us on, but we have a regular couple of thousand who have been brilliant all season.
It’s just a brilliant bond and I just love this club: I love what it stands for, I love the city. It’s just brilliant.
We now just want to finish the season with this great run we’ve been on and carry on that ruthlessness that we’ve had. That is what I am looking for in our remaining two games.
Thanks so much for your support as always.
YNWA,
Matt
