ReactionMarie Höbinger: We'll reset now and come back stronger
The Reds took one point from their final fixture of the opening phase of 2024-25, drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace at St Helens Stadium on Sunday.
Matt Beard’s side have totalled six points from their five matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League so far this term.
Höbinger gave an honest verdict of a performance the squad felt fell below their standards but believes the fortnight hiatus before travelling to Aston Villa next time out can be used positively.
“Not a good performance from us,” the midfielder told BBC Radio Merseyside.
“We weren’t aggressive enough, in possession not patient enough. We didn’t create enough. Defensively, not structured enough, I’d say.
“It’s hard to say [why], we have to reflect on that. But I think it’s just individual performances. We had a good training week.
“It’s one of the days where we had to find a way, and didn’t. We have to take more responsibility in games when we don’t find ways.”
She continued: “We have the international break now, most of the players go away and play for their countries – important games as well. It’s just good to put the focus on different things, a different environment, go home.
“I think that’s just going to be a very good reset for us and then come back stronger.”
Ex-Liverpool striker Katie Stengel returned to haunt her old club with the opening goal for Palace just shy of the quarter-hour mark.
Cornelia Kapocs brought the home side back level, however, with an effective press followed by an excellent finish across the goalkeeper.
“She’s going to score more, she’s so good in front of goal, she’s so composed,” Höbinger said of the summer signing. “She knows where to place it as well.
“I think she’s a very, very good addition to the team and a very good goalscorer.”
