NewsMarie Höbinger voted LFC Women's Standard Chartered Player of the Season

The midfielder produced a brilliant debut campaign with the Reds to claim the prize following a fan poll on Liverpoolfc.com, with Gemma Bonner finishing as runner-up and Grace Fisk taking third.

Höbinger made 29 appearances and scored five times in all competitions, helping Matt Beard's side secure a fourth-placed finish in the Barclays Women's Super League.

The Austria international completed a switch to Liverpool from FC Zurich Frauen last July and quickly became an important member of the squad.

A much-relied-upon figure by Beard, no player made more appearances than Höbinger this season – only Fisk could match her tally.

She started the opening-day victory at Arsenal and then followed that up by opening her account for the club with a stunning finish against Aston Villa.

Her efforts earned her the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for October as recognition for the hugely bright start to her Reds career.

The 22-year-old tended to come to the fore when her team needed her most, scoring vital late goals versus Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

She was crucial during the campaign's run-in to help Liverpool with their pursuit for a spot in the top four.

Höbinger's Goal of the Season contender secured all three points at Bristol City and she then made history in the dramatic 4-3 win over eventual champions Chelsea, becoming the first player in the WSL to produce a hat-trick of assists from corners.

The No.14 also set up Jenna Clark's winner against Manchester United at Prenton Park to move the Reds into fourth, which was then wrapped up on the final day at Leicester.
