NewsMarie Höbinger signs new contract with Liverpool FC Women

The Austria international midfielder extends a spell with the club that began when she joined from FC Zurich Frauen during the summer of 2023.

Höbinger has impressed throughout 39 appearances across the past 18 months, delivering seven goals and providing five assists for Matt Beard’s team.

The No.14 appeared in all 22 of the Reds’ Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures last season – including 18 starts – to help secure a fourth-placed finish.

“I’m so, so happy,” she told Liverpoolfc.com upon finalising the contract extension at the AXA Melwood Training Centre today.

“I think it’s always an honour to play for Liverpool and I’ve enjoyed my time so, so much. I think I’ve also become much more confident and comfortable in that environment. I think it’s a good place to be and to extend here.”

This term, Höbinger has made 10 appearances in all competitions so far and her double away at Tottenham Hotspur in October – featuring a 95th-minute penalty – was pivotal to a 3-2 victory.

She is currently nearing a return to match action having been sidelined since early December as a result of a groin injury sustained on international duty.

“Wherever I am, I want to be the happiest and the best of myself, and I think the Liverpool environment makes it really easy,” Höbinger added.

“The football club, the city and all the people that I work with every day just give me the chance to get better every day, and I think that’s exactly what I want. I’ve made friendships and the city makes me feel [at] home as well.”

LFC Women manager Matt Beard said securing Höbinger’s continued presence in red was a significant moment for the team.

“I’m delighted, Marie had a fantastic first season here,” he said.

“I think it’s tough to repeat what you did the year before especially at such a young age and coming in to such a tough division.

“She hit the ground running and statistically she’s been fantastic.

“It was a blow to lose her just before Christmas but we’ve got her back now and she’s going to be a top, top player for this club.”
