MatchManchester United v Liverpool: Team news
The Reds added Italy international forward Federico Chiesa to their ranks earlier this week as he completed a switch to the club from Juventus.
However, head coach Arne Slot explained it is unlikely Chiesa will be immediately involved in the 4pm BST kick-off at Old Trafford.
“He’s going to train with us today but it’s a bigger chance that he is not in the squad for Sunday than he is,” Slot told the media on Friday morning.
“If injuries might come up in the upcoming two days we might need him, but I don’t expect him to be in but I cannot guarantee this.”
Discussing the fitness of the rest of his squad in the build-up to the Premier League clash, Slot said at his pre-match press conference: “At the moment there are not any other injuries except for Curtis Jones.
“He will not train with us today [Friday]. But the rest will train with us today.”
This game could see Andy Robertson make his 300th appearance for Liverpool in all competitions, while Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas are each one outing away from respective league landmarks of 200, 100 and 50 at the club.
On transfer deadline day, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon, Nathaniel Phillips and Marcelo Pitaluga each departed the Reds on loan.
The hosts, meanwhile, will definitely continue to be without striker Rasmus Hojlund, while Mason Mount is sidelined after sustaining a muscle injury at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
Erik ten Hag was unable to call on Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro for that encounter, and said: “For the rest, it’s the same squad as last week.”
The United boss added of the occasion: “Always when Liverpool come [to Old Trafford], it is very exciting and we are really looking forward to compete with them.
“We have a good squad, we can bring a good team out. Of course, it’s early in the season – we have to progress, we have to improve. Also because we have to integrate some new players in. But we are really looking forward to this game.”
The hosts’ activity on the final day of the transfer window included the arrival of Manuel Ugarte and the departure of Scott McTominay.
