The Reds are likely to make the journey to Old Trafford without defender Ibrahima Konate, who may not recover in time from the injury that ruled him out of the previous two games.

“Ibou didn’t train today,” said Jürgen Klopp on Friday. “We have to see if he can train tomorrow but it will be a tight, tight race which we will probably lose, but we don’t know.”

There was more positive news from the manager on Bobby Clark after he was forced off in the second half of Thursday’s 6-1 Europa League win over Sparta Prague.

And Ryan Gravenberch, too, with the Dutchman back in contention having been sidelined since sustaining an issue during the Carabao Cup final three weeks ago.

“Bobby felt much better,” said Klopp. “That was uncomfortable, he got a knock there, a little swelling and that’s why [we had] the feeling that it might be something more serious but it’s not, so he’s fine.

“Ryan trained today again, so he’s ready.”

Liverpool will continue to be without those on their longer-term injury list, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.

Clark, Harvey Elliott and Gravenberch are a yellow card away from a one-match suspension in the FA Cup.

United boss Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, reported that Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be available this weekend.

“They returned on the pitch. Partly in the start of the week and, today, we had a session that they were all training,” said Ten Hag on Friday.

“I think [they’re going to be available]. We have, tomorrow, one session. We have to see how they recover from this tomorrow. But it looks good.”

He added: “Tom Heaton is back as well. Also, what was very good was Mason Mount trained all week with us, the first part of the week also partly. But then also he had some full sessions with us, so it’s looking good.”

The hosts do have several confirmed absentees, however, with Altay Bayindir, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw to play no part in the fixture.

Jonny Evans and Omari Forson are also doubts.
