Russell Martin's Saints set up a trip to Anfield later this month with a 3-0 victory over Watford in a fourth-round replay on Tuesday night.

As a result, they will now make their first visit to L4 in the competition since 1990 when they were beaten 3-0 by the Reds, also in the fifth round.

Goals from Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley and Steve Nicol put Sir Kenny Dalglish's side into the hat for the quarter-finals that day.

Four seasons earlier, in 1985-86, Dalglish took his men to White Hart Lane for a semi-final encounter, where Southampton stood in their way.

A tight affair was unlocked by a pair of Rush finishes in extra-time to book Liverpool's spot at Wembley and set up the first all-Merseyside FA Cup final with Everton.

The year 1971 saw the clubs face each other in round five, with Chris Lawler's solitary goal at Anfield enough to send Bill Shankly's team through.

The previous FA Cup meeting between the clubs before that was 45 years earlier in 1926 – a 1-0 win for the Reds at Anfield in a third-round replay, courtesy of a Dick Forshaw strike.

Between 1902 and 1926, Liverpool and Southampton faced each other seven times in football's oldest tournament.

Saints' only two FA Cup victories over the Reds both came at The Dell – prevailing 1-0 in the 1924-25 fourth round, having won a round-two tie 4-1 back in February 1902.
