MatchLiverpool v Bologna: Champions League team news

The Reds welcome the Serie A side to Anfield for their second league-phase fixture on Wednesday night, and they are set to do so without the services of Federico Chiesa.

Diogo Jota, though, is likely to be fit despite the fact he has missed training this week.

During Tuesday's pre-match press conference, Slot said: "Federico trained with us yesterday and came in today with some problems, and I'm not expecting him to be in the team tomorrow.

"Which is a pity for us but of course for him even more. He was looking forward to a Champions League night at Anfield and especially because we're facing an Italian team. It's a pity for him but he will be there [in the future], many more nights to come for him.

"Diogo missed out on two sessions after the game against Wolves. He took a knock. I'm expecting him to be with us tomorrow, that he's available to play."

When asked how long he expects Chiesa to be sidelined, the head coach replied: "That's always difficult because it happened yesterday but I'm not expecting him to be out for a very long period of time.

"But this game is not possible for him and we have to wait and see if he can manage to be in the team on Saturday. And afterwards it's the international break."

Harvey Elliott is also unavailable through injury.

However, Darwin Nunez is in training with the squad having missed last weekend's win at Wolverhampton Wanderers due to illness, and so too is Andy Robertson, who suffered a knock late in the game at Molineux.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker can bring up the milestone of 50 European appearances for Liverpool in this match.

Bologna, meanwhile, have named a 23-man squad for the tie.

On Monday, I Rossoblu confirmed Lewis Ferguson and Tommaso Pobega were continuing to train separately as they recover from respective injuries, while Oussama El Azzouzi remains absent, with the trio missing the visit to Anfield.

Head coach Vincenzo Italiano, whose team have drawn five times this season alongside one win and one defeat, said: "We have to go strong and do better in everything that we've done so far.

"They [Liverpool] know how to put their opponents in difficulty in every part of the game. We have to stick to playing our game and giving our best in terms of individual performances.

"I told the boys to be focused because this is a mini-tournament and there is a league table where we need to pick up points. Liverpool beat Milan, they are going well in the league, but we want to create chances here."
