Match reportLiverpool U21s close out campaign with victory over Crystal Palace
Liverpool U21s earned a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in their final outing of the 2022-23 campaign.
James McConnell's effort on the hour mark proved to be the difference in the capital, as the Reds earned the Premier League 2 spoils.
The result left Liverpool second in the standings to close out the season, and made it three wins in a row and back-to-back successes in London in the space of a week.
U21s head coach Barry Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com post-match: "I'm delighted. To finish the season with a 1-0 against West Ham, 4-0 at Fulham and 1-0 at Palace – we've been really resolute defensively and shown that.
"We showed the commitment and concentration right to the end of the season. We've had three good wins to finish off really strongly, which is really pleasing for everyone involved."
On the progression of his players throughout the campaign, he added: "It's a real good time at the end of the season to sit back and reflect a lot more on individual players and how they've developed.
"I think some have really blossomed this season, which has been really nice to see.
"I'm really pleased and I told the boys that. It's how they've performed, how they've trained and how they've bought into everything they've tried to do all year."
