Liverpool FC's 131st birthday
It was on June 3, 1892 that the club officially came into existence when founder John Houlding received the below certificate from the Board of Trade, which ratified his newly formed team.
The process that led to LFC’s creation had actually started in earnest in March of the same year, as an acrimonious dispute between Houlding and his close associates saw them split from Everton FC.
Left with a vacant Anfield and no team to play there, Houlding quickly launched a new one – with his friend William E. Barclay credited for suggesting its name.
They agreed upon a mission statement: “That the club be called Liverpool Football Club and shall play under the Rules of the Football Association.”
On June 3, Houlding and his friends were informed Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company Limited had been officially recognised.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
