Club statementLiverpool FC parts company with Matt Beard
Liverpool FC can confirm Matt Beard leaves his post as manager of LFC Women with immediate effect.
Beard originally joined LFC Women in 2012 and built a squad that won back-to-back Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. He also led the Reds in their first Champions League campaign.
After returning from his spell with Boston Breakers in the USA, he enjoyed two years with West Ham United Women, including a run to the Women’s FA Cup final in 2019, before a spell with Bristol City Women.
He rejoined the Reds in May 2021 to rebuild the team and return it to the top flight of women’s football, which he orchestrated in his first season back in charge, winning the FA Women’s Championship in emphatic fashion and promotion to the WSL.
On behalf of the LFC Women board, Mike Gordon, Fenway Sports Group president, Billy Hogan, LFC chief executive officer, and communications director Susan Black, LFC thanks Matt for his significant contribution.
“We have all experienced some fantastic moments with Matt as manager of LFC Women and we express our gratitude for his significant contribution. Our priority was to return this team to where it belongs and we collectively achieved that in 2022 by winning promotion to the WSL.
“We need to build on that momentum and although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for future success on the pitch.”
The search for a new manager of LFC Women is under way, with Amber Whiteley stepping in to the interim LFC Women’s manager role with immediate effect.
