NewsLiverpool complete signing of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch
Netherlands international Gravenberch becomes the fourth new arrival of the summer for the Reds after undergoing a medical and finalising the deal at the AXA Training Centre today.
A product of AFC Ajax’s famous academy system, he came through the ranks to become the club’s youngest ever debutant at 16 and went on to claim three Eredivisie titles, being named the division’s Talent of the Year in 2021.
There were also two Dutch cup successes, with Gravenberch scoring the opening goal in the 2021 final as Ajax beat Vitesse Arnhem 2-1.
He departed Amsterdam having made 103 appearances – including 14 starts in the Champions League – and delivered 25 goal contributions in all competitions.
Gravenberch then switched to Bayern last summer and featured 33 times during 2022-23, adding a Bundesliga winner’s medal to his honours list.
Now the 21-year-old starts a new chapter in his career with Jürgen Klopp’s team, following Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo to Anfield.
“I’m very happy. Very happy that the deal is done and I’m finally here,” Gravenberch told Liverpoolfc.com during his exclusive first interview as a Red.
“If you see it from the outside, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also the fans, the stadium, I think everything from the outside is top. So that’s why [it was the right club].”
At international level, Gravenberch was part of the Dutch squad that lifted the U17 European Championship held in England in 2018, featuring in four matches and starting the final.
He achieved his senior Netherlands debut in March 2021 and then represented his country at the delayed Euro 2020. To date, Gravenberch has earned 11 caps in total for his country, scoring once.
“I’m really looking forward to [being at Anfield] and I can’t wait to hear the You’ll Never Walk Alone song,” the Reds’ new No.38 added.
“Now we start fresh again, a new start, and I’m going to give my all for this club. [My ambitions are] to win prizes. To win prizes, play a lot and show them who we are and who I am.”
