First half
Wolves began the afternoon on the front foot, first forcing Alisson Becker into a strong save from distance through Mateus Cunha, before Pablo Sarabia dragged a low effort wide.
The hosts did find the advantage in the fifth minute, though, with Hwang Hee-Chan seeing a cross inadvertently diverted into the net off Matip’s knee via the post.
Wolves doubled their lead a short while later, defender Dawson finding the back of the net with a half-volley following a scramble in the box at a free kick.
Liverpool responded, Nunez forcing a strong save from Jose Sa, while Mohamed Salah lifted a shot over the bar after a driving run from halfway by Matip.
As half-time approached, Alisson was again worked by Matheus Nunes during a swift break for Wolves, producing a strong save down to his left.
Second half
Liverpool started on the front foot following the change of ends, seeing a flurry of chances inside the opposition box.
Naby Keita had a shot blocked on the line with appeals for handball waved away, while Cody Gakpo and Salah both went close to scoring – the latter seeing a curled effort fall the wrong side of the far post.
Nunez then latched onto a ball over the top from Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the forward volleying into the legs of the onrushing Sa in the hosts goal.
Wolves, though, struck again by breaking at pace through substitute Adama Traore, who allowed Neves to tuck a finish into the corner from inside the area and complete the scoring.
