NewsLiverpool and West Ham's League Cup history
The Reds advanced to the competition’s last eight with a 2-1 win away at AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night, and quickly learned their next opponents.
The Hammers will visit Anfield for a tie that is scheduled for the week beginning December 18.
They last faced off in the League Cup at the fourth-round stage in November 1988 – and Jürgen Klopp’s side will be aiming to avoid a repeat of that night’s 4-1 away defeat.
Liverpool have had the better of the teams’ seven previous League Cup matches overall, though, following a 2-1 loss at Upton Park in the first in October 1971.
The Reds won a second-round replay two years later and they then clashed in the 1981 final, with a replay again required to decide a winner.
Goals from Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen at Villa Park ensured it was Liverpool who clinched the first of four consecutive triumphs in the tournament.
And Bob Paisley’s side also saw off West Ham en route to glory in the 1983 edition, winning 2-1 at Anfield in the fifth round that season.
