The sides have met four times before in domestic cup competitions; Cardiff won both in the FA Cup, Liverpool won both in the League Cup.

The Reds have won each of the last six contests, scoring 19 goals in the process – including 12 in the past three.

Kaide Gordon became Liverpool’s youngest ever scorer in the FA Cup – aged 17 years and 96 days – with his strike in the previous round’s 4-1 defeat of Shrewsbury Town at Anfield.

In that game, Fabinho became the first Reds player since Yossi Benayoun in 2008 to score more than once in an FA Cup tie at Anfield.

Takumi Minamino could make his 50th appearance for the club.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 21 games at Anfield in all competitions, since a 1-0 loss to Fulham in March 2021.

The last player to score on his debut for the club did so in this competition: Virgil van Dijk against Everton at Anfield in January 2018.

The 12pm GMT kick-off will be the Reds’ earliest in this competition since they won 2-0 at Leeds United in 2001 and went on to lift the trophy.

Cardiff’s last win over the Reds came in December 1959 in Bill Shankly’s first match as Liverpool manager.
