ReviewLiverpool 2-0 Everton: Analysis of Harvey Elliott impact and Trent Alexander-Arnold influence
During his regular post-match Review Show, which is now available to watch on LFCTV GO, former Reds striker Mellor analysed how Jürgen Klopp's side eventually broke down a resolute Blues outfit.
“Harvey had a really good international break with England U21s and he captained them too, and he made a big impact when he came off the bench,” he said.
“Obviously Harvey is a Liverpool fan as well and he knows what this fixture means to the supporters.
“He looked really bright and sharp, wanted to be involved and he was so neat and tidy.
“I thought Harvey and Darwin Nunez both made a big impact when they came on.
“He nearly scored as well, was so unlucky with a really good effort, which [forced] a really good save to deflect it onto the bar.”
Mellor also had special words for vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had more touches than any other player during the Merseyside derby.
He continued: “Trent was absolutely top-class and he just sees the picture that nobody else sees.
“He is really influential when he has the ball at his feet.”
