Match reportLFC Women U21s lift Liverpool County FA Senior Cup
A hat-trick from striker Lili Baidoe and two from midfielder Maddy Duffy led the scoring as the team collected the trophy - which escaped them in last season’s final - in fine style.
The young Reds were two goals up within six minutes and never looked like being clawed back by a spirited Mossley Hill side.
Goals from strike pairing Charlie Chadwick and Baidoe gave the U21s an early lead and substitute Libby Bermingham made it three ahead of half-time, having replaced the injured Chadwick.
Baidoe added two more after the break, as did Duffy, with Holly Tickle the other to find the back of the net.
Mossley Hill goalkeeper Olivia Cull made some superb stops to keep her team in the contest, though the Reds stretched away to secure the silverware denied them by Liverpool Feds last year.
It took just two minutes for Liverpool to take the lead with a goal glorious in its simplicity.
Baidoe collected a good channel pass down the right and picked out Chadwick with a pinpoint cross, the striker giving Cull no chance with her powerful drive.
Mia Leath, who made her senior debut last month, almost made it two within three minutes, her low shot going just wide.
The reprieve lasted only a minute, though, as the Reds extended their advantage on six minutes.
Baidoe controlled a good cross from the left with her first touch, before slotting home easily beyond Cull for early daylight for Simon O’Neill’s team.
Liverpool’s front pairing were causing their opponents all sorts of problems and they looked like extending their lead in every attack.
Great close control from Baidoe stretched the Mossley Hill defence on 10 minutes before the ball broke to Chadwick, with her effort too high.
The strike duo were at it again two minutes later, Baidoe’s clever flick sending Chadwick in on goal, only to be denied by an excellent save from Cull.
They seemed unstoppable until injury intervened on 20 minutes, Chadwick unable to continue after an earlier knock.
Cull was keeping Mossley Hill in the game and she made an incredible save to keep the deficit at two on 26 minutes.
A great run from Duffy took her behind the defence and she laid on a pass for Baidoe, whose goalbound effort was stopped by a stunning reflex save from the goalkeeper.
Even Cull could do nothing on 38 minutes, however, as the Reds finally stretched their lead to three.
Baidoe sent a searching ball to the right wing to find Bo Price, and her perfect cross was dispatched by substitute Bermingham for the three-goal cushion.
In first-half injury time, holding midfielder Holly McEvoy made a lovely run forward only for Cull to save on the angle, before Duffy was also put through on goal, the goalkeeper again performing heroics to leave her side trailing by three at the break.
Liverpool continued their dominance after the interval, Baidoe winning and converting a penalty within three minutes of the restart for her second and her team’s fourth.
Rishona Dykes tracked back well for Mossley Hill to deny Price at the back post, while Baidoe’s header was too close to Cull as she sought her hat-trick from a Bermingham corner.
The fifth goal arrived 10 minutes into the second half, Baidoe’s fine through ball perfectly finished by the impressive Duffy.
Left-back Alice Mottershead almost grabbed an assist too, her low cross turned just wide by the sprawling Bermingham.
It was impossible to keep Baidoe out of the game, however, and the striker duly completed her hat-trick ahead of the hour mark.
She picked up a loose pass, rounded Cull and poked home her third much to the delight of the fans in attendance.
Mossley Hill continued to fight and got their reward when substitute Jodie Mortimer turned the ball home following a scramble in the Reds box.
Liverpool, though, went in search of more goals at the opposite end, and did so with a seventh, as Tickle’s rising shot was too powerful for Cull following a corner, before Duffy added her second with a curling finish eight minutes later.
Baidoe attempted an outrageous overhead volley from the edge of the box late on, with only the crossbar denying her one of the goals of the season.
It was captain Leath, though, who was left to pick up the impressive LCFA Senior Cup trophy, with a number of LFC Women’s senior team watching on.
