Matt Beard has revealed goalkeeper Rachael Laws will miss Wednesday night's home meeting with Chelsea in the Barclays Women's Super League.

Liverpool FC Women will also be without captain Niamh Fahey and Shanice van de Sanden at Prenton Park, but Jasmine Matthews is back in training following a hamstring injury.

Beard told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday: "Lawsy will be out and is probably out for the season now with a finger injury.

"Niamh and Shanice won't be available but everyone else should be available.

"Shanice is out for the season. She has had an injection in her ankle, so it will be three weeks and we need to make sure that settles down. But we've not got long left in the season now, so it's just about making sure she recovers from that and gets fit and healthy.

"Niamh, we are taking it week by week. She trained with us last week, had a bit of a reaction, so she will probably be back in training I would have thought by the back end of this week, early next week."

Beard also offered his reaction to Zara Shaw returning to training for the first time since her anterior cruciate ligament injury in August.

He said: "Immensely proud of her. She has been a machine – I think that would be the word that Unders [Chris Underwood] used – with her rehab.

"She just got her head down, worked hard, didn't have many setbacks, which you do have with the recovery from this type of injury. Every time I've gone into the gym to see her, she's been grafting.

"It was absolutely great to see her back on the pitch. She got a big cheer in the meeting room this morning. I just said her name and everyone was clapping and cheering, so I didn't have to say anything else! And obviously the little run of honour when she came back in.

"She's only 16 years old, she's such a fantastically talented player and she's a great person. But she hasn't half worked hard and physically she looks really, really good. It looked like she hadn't been away at all today."
