NewsLFC shares its sustainability commitments on the world stage at COP28
Using COP28’s global platform, LFC demonstrated its ongoing commitment to sustainability through its The Red Way strategy, which encompasses all of the club’s work to build a better future for its people, its planet and its communities.
It also provided an opportunity to highlight the club’s achievements and progress to date and its ongoing journey to improvement, which includes a series of ambitious targets, such as halving its operational emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2040.
Despite being the only football club in attendance, LFC was joined by other sports organisations, including SailGP and Formula E, to debate what more can be done beyond influence to further promote environmental responsibility within the sports industry.
Rishi Jain, LFC’s director of impact, represented the club at a number of events at COP28 to share knowledge and network alongside like-minded organisations across a range of sectors and sustainability leaders.
He said: “We were proud to have a presence at COP28 and be part of important conversations on sustainability. There are so many takeaways that will help inform the journey we are on to reduce our environmental impact to ensure we leave a lasting legacy for our people, planet and communities.
“It was really positive to see that in almost every discussion held, whether that was as part of a round-table discussion, panel or an informal conversation, the desire to increase collaboration across sports and other sectors was clear to see, and I’m looking forward to seeing what can be achieved in the future.”
COP28 continues an ongoing working partnership between the club and the United Nations.
In 2022 the club became a member of the UN’s Eradicate Hate Global Sports Working Group, and in April this year hosted its summit at Anfield, welcoming more than 100 representatives from elite sports across the UK and USA.
