TourLFC Foundation joins Philadelphia Union Foundation for special soccer clinic for local youngsters
Nearly 80 young players from Chester Union, the Philadelphia Union Foundation’s free youth soccer programme, took part in a soccer clinic led by LFC Foundation coaches alongside coaches from Philadelphia Union Foundation, giving them the chance to develop their skills and create special memories.
LFC CEO Billy Hogan and LFC Foundation CEO Matt Parish were in attendance at the event to show their support and take part in some of the activities with the youngsters.
Club ambassador Natasha Dowie and Reds legend Sami Hyypia also shared their knowledge and joined in the sessions, while club mascot Mighty Red and Philadelphia Union’s Phang were on hand to join in and entertain the young players between sessions.
The children were split into groups and rotated through four different stations led by the LFC Foundation coaches to help learn new skills and develop their game.
Both LFC Foundation and Philadelphia Union Foundation are aligned in their goals to improve the lives of young people, and play a key role in doing so in their respective communities.
Last year alone, LFC Foundation, the Reds’ official charity, supported 123,000 people across the Liverpool City Region and beyond, and in the last three years it has delivered more than £65 million in health benefits and contributed more than £16 million directly into the local economy.
LFC Foundation also runs a ‘Creative Works’ programme in the USA, with support from club partner Kodansha. The employability programme is delivered across New York and New Jersey, bringing together young adults to inspire the next generation of creatives through storytelling.
“It was fantastic to work with Philadelphia Union Foundation to put on a special event for the local children,” said Parish. “It was a really enjoyable day and it’s brilliant for us to be able to give back to these local communities while the club are here on tour.
“We have had a number of LFC Foundation events so far throughout the tour and it’s been incredible to see the engagement and the response from those involved, and we are looking forward to continuing that throughout the rest of the week.”
