NewsLFC and Kodansha team up to showcase sports-inspired manga at Liverpool Comic Con
The exciting activation, which will be on display from November 9-10, is a collaboration by Kodansha and LFC's in-house design team and celebrates the popular manga series Blue Lock, written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura.
The Blue Lock series, which has achieved remarkable success with more than 40 million copies in circulation worldwide and winning the prestigious 2021 Kodansha Manga Award, combines the intensity of football with a thrilling survival edge. Set in the aftermath of Japan's loss at the 2018 World Cup, the story follows the Japan Football Union's quest to find a true ace striker.
The exhibition booth artistically encapsulates LFC players in the intensity of Blue Lock – including captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, alongside Japanese stars Wataru Endo and Liverpool FC Women's Fuka Nagano.
The event will bring together fans of football and manga as well as Liverpool supporters for a weekend filled with exclusive experiences and activities at one of Europe's largest pop culture conventions.
In addition to exploring LFC's and Kodansha's exhibition display, fans will be treated to special appearances by former player David James and LFC mascot Mighty Red, adding an extra layer of excitement to the weekend. MyLFC members can also look forward to exclusive competitions and giveaways available throughout the event.
LFC's presence at Comic Con will also include LFC Foundation, with participants from its Creative Works programme taking part in the event and gaining invaluable experience in a vibrant, creative environment.
Akiko Kamiya, corporate branding deputy director at Kodansha, said: "At Kodansha, we're thrilled to bring the worlds of football and manga to fans through our partnership with Liverpool FC. Blue Lock captures the pursuit of dreams and the determination to push beyond limits – qualities that resonate with Liverpool FC's spirit. We hope fans enjoy this unique experience at Comic Con."
