LFC WomenLeanne Kiernan a winner at 2022 Northwest Football Awards

The striker was named Women’s Player of the Season outside the top flight after helping the Reds secure promotion from the Women’s Championship last term.

Having joined the club the preceding summer, Kiernan netted 13 goals in the division during 2021-22 as Matt Beard’s team lifted the title in style.

“It’s amazing,” said the 23-year-old after receiving the prize at the NWFA ceremony. “I was very nervous going up on stage, I couldn’t believe my name was called.

“A shoutout to my team, I wouldn’t be here without them, they were brilliant all season. And a shoutout to my coach Beardy, and to the coaching staff and everyone who puts their trust in me.

“It’s brilliant to achieve something like this. People feel like it’s an individual thing but I think it’s a club thing and a team thing, I wouldn’t be here without them.

“It’s a huge honour to receive this award. This one is for my team, staff and the fans. Thank you!”

Kiernan is currently recovering from surgery after suffering an ankle injury during the first game of the current campaign and also gave an update on her progress.

“It’s going well, we’re taking it day by day,” she said. “I actually brought the physio out tonight as my plus one! We’re on target but I’m not putting a time on it so I don’t get disappointed.”
