InterviewKostas Tsimikas: You have to forget wins quickly - we're prepared for Newcastle

The Reds recorded their biggest ever victory in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon by defeating AFC Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield.

But the fixture schedule offers Jürgen Klopp's side little chance to savour such a result, with Newcastle arriving at L4 on Wednesday evening for a contest under the lights.

"When you play at this top level, you have to forget one win very fast because after two, three days you play the next game," Tsimikas told Liverpoolfc.com, previewing the 8pm BST kick-off.

"We have to see every game differently because every game is very difficult and we have to be well prepared for everything. This is the only thing we have to do and always we do.

"It's a good team. They have very good, talented players up front – very fast, very quick and very technical. We have to be focused if we want to achieve something.

"We have to win every personal duel, in my opinion, and to score from the first chance we will get. We expect one very hard game."

The Bournemouth victory did, however, provide a much-needed boost to players and supporters after what Klopp described as a 'false start' to the 2022-23 campaign.

Tsimikas continued: "The previous game was a very important win for the upcoming games.

"We have Newcastle, a very difficult team. I saw against Man City they are very tough, they score goals, they are very compact. It's going to be a very difficult game for us and we have to be prepared.

"I think it was a very good winning start for us. But nothing is easy in this league, so I think most important is to be 100 per cent focused and to give absolutely everything if we want to win this game."

Tsimikas did not start Liverpool's previous outing but still left a lasting impression on the fixture from the substitutes' bench.

Introduced in the 69th minute, the left-back assisted Fabio Carvalho and Luis Diaz for the hosts' eighth and ninth goals.

"For me, I think it was one of the biggest wins I had in my football career so far," the Greece international said. "I'm very happy I was there and played with the team.

"I try to keep myself ready, to be focused. I don't want to lose even one minute from the time I will be in.

"I'm happy for my two assists. This showed me the sky's the limit. Always I have to be ready, to be 100 per cent focused if I want to achieve my personal goal."
