Programme notesJordan Henderson: There is still a great deal of work to be done

The Reds secured a fifth win in a row in midweek against Fulham and their second on Merseyside in just four days.

Jürgen Klopp’s charges now face the visiting Bees this evening to cap off a busy week in L4, hoping to add to their impressive run, alongside putting right the defeat suffered in January's reverse fixture.

Henderson – in his official matchday programme notes – pens: “That was a bad day for us, one that we will do our utmost to put right today, but it was a great one for Brentford and we could have no complaints about that particular result.

“We have had a few more hiccups along the way since then, but there is no question that our form has picked up significantly of late. Winning four matches in a row and going into the Fulham game having also drawn with Arsenal previously is definitely a step in the right direction and a reminder of what we continue to be capable of.

“At the same time, though, the fact that this kind of run has not been the norm this season tells us that there is still a great deal of work to be done.

“That’s why it is so important to keep banging on about consistency. It can’t ever be about what we do over a few games, it is about maintaining high standards over prolonged periods, picking up points even when we are not playing as well as we would like and regularly producing the kind of performances which allow us to climb the table.

“That has always been the way of things at Liverpool and we cannot ever allow this to change. That brings pressure, of course, but I have always believed it to be a positive pressure in the sense that this is a club that has never settled for second best or which has ever been content to do OK.

“The challenge here is to be the best that we possibly can be and in this respect we have to keep on using the opportunities that come our way between now and the end of the season to build on what we have done in recent weeks.”
