ReactionJordan Henderson: Getting through was the most important thing
Jürgen Klopp’s squad played out a topsy-turvy encounter against the Lisbon visitors to L4.
Ibrahima Konate’s first-half header followed by a second-half brace from Roberto Firmino was enough to see the Reds secure a place in the final four owing to a 6-4 aggregate victory.
Henderson admitted there were aspects of the performance he and his teammates would have liked to improve upon, but was left satisfied after setting up a semi-final tie with Spanish side Villarreal.
The No.14 told BT Sport post-match: “I think we want to do better overall, but at the same time I felt as though we started the game really well.
“[In the] first half we could have scored one or two more goals. It was comfortable, but I think we’ll be disappointed in the goals that we conceded.
“There’s still plenty of stuff we can be better at, but overall, we knew it was going to be tough. At 3-1 it is never over, we wanted to give it everything.
“[There was] a lot of changes with fresh legs, but we’re through to the next round, which is the most important thing.”
On facing Villarreal in the final four of the competition, the skipper added: “They’ve knocked out Juventus [and] Bayern [Munich] - two very good sides.
“They’re a very good team in their own right. That’ll be a very difficult tie - both legs.
“We need to be 100 per cent ready, give it everything and hopefully we can progress to the final.”
