InterviewJenna Clark previews Manchester City clash: 'We are ready to go'

Ahead of Saturday's home meeting with title-chasing City in the Barclays Women's Super League, Matt Beard's side sit fourth in the standings having enjoyed an impressive season to date.

Last weekend's draw against Everton at Goodison Park saw the Reds leapfrog Manchester United by a single point and stretch their unbeaten run to five games in the WSL.

Liverpool now face a tricky test in a 12.30pm GMT kick-off against second-placed City, who have lost just two of their 17 games this term in the midst of their tilt to be champions.

Read on as Clark speaks with Liverpoolfc.com about the examination this weekend's opponents will offer, the difference the AXA Melwood Training Centre has made to the squad, and much more…

On the influence of the AXA Melwood Training Centre as their base…

I don't think I can put into words just how good it has been for us. Knowing the history of the club and to then be a part of that and be welcomed here, it is only good for the club and for women's football going forward. To come in here every day is really exciting.

On being back in the team recently…

I'm absolutely loving it! Training has been really good, we are working hard and to make it back into the team, I'm delighted to be getting more minutes.

On the team being in good form having gone unbeaten in the last five WSL games…

We have all been working hard in training and pushing each other, so to see it showing on the pitch has been good.

On the frustrations of the goalless draw against Everton…

We weren't too happy with that game, we know that for ourselves, and this weekend we want to right the wrongs that we felt from the weekend and take it into this game against Manchester City.

On keeping the clean sheet at Goodison Park and taking positives from that…

It's always important to get the clean sheet. We go into every game with the intention of trying to get that, so from a defensive point of view we were happy to get that against Everton. There are areas we can definitely improve on but we kept the clean sheet, which is good.

On Saturday's home meeting with Manchester City…

We love our fans and our home games are always special. Our game wasn't the best the last time we played against them, so we want to put that right and do it not just for ourselves but for our fans as well and put on a good performance.

On facing a side like City, who are fighting hard for the title…

When we played against them recently, it was a really tough game and we weren't happy with our own performance. They are a very good side but we have been preparing well this week, working hard and we are ready to go.

On whether she embraces the challenge as a defender to come up against City striker Khadija Shaw…

It is a test but that's why we play football. You want to improve every week and the only way you are going to improve is by playing against the best. Yes, it's a tough game and one-to-one battles, but it's what you want as a player.

On how much Niamh Fahey and Gemma Bonner have been role models this season…

They have been massive for me. It goes without saying that the experience they bring, they are such talented players. So for me to be learning off them day in, day out in training and then in the games, it is helping me develop as a player.

On a really positive season for the team being in fourth place in the WSL…

We are really happy with the way the season has gone so far but we are under no illusion that it will be hard to stay in fourth place but we want to finish the season as strong as we can. We want to get as many points as we possibly can.
